Privacy Policy

Last updated: April, 2025

  1. Introduction

Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information Swipe (“we” or “us”) collects and how we use, share, and protect it. Our package protection service is designed to process claims for lost, stolen, or damaged packages – we do not collect any data for marketing purposes or unnecessary tracking. By using Swipe’s services or visiting our website, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

  1. Information We Collect

We only collect the information required to provide and support our package protection and claims services:

  • Order and Shipping Information: When you or your customers opt-in to Swipe Package Protection at checkout, we receive details about the order (e.g. order number, items, value) and shipping information (e.g. recipient name, shipping address, tracking number) to know what’s covered.
  • Contact Information: If you file a claim or contact us for support, we collect your name and email address (and optionally phone number) to communicate about the claim status or respond to inquiries.
  • Claim Details: For processing claims, we may collect additional information that you provide, such as descriptions of what happened (e.g. “package was stolen from porch”), photos of damage, or proof of non-delivery.
  • Merchant Account Data: If you are a merchant installing the Swipe Shopify app, we collect business contact information and store details (like store name, Shopify ID) to integrate our service with your store and remit any applicable payments.
  • Website Usage Data: When you visit our site, we may collect basic analytics data (e.g. page views, browser type) via cookies as described in our Cookie Notice. This data is anonymous and used solely to improve our website’s performance and user experience.

We do not collect any payment card information from customers — all checkout payments (including protection fees) are handled securely by the merchant’s Shopify checkout. Swipe does not see your credit card or payment details.

  1. How We Use Your Information

We strictly use the collected information to operate and improve our service:

  • Providing Service: We use order and contact information to identify your shipment and provide the package protection service – for example, to verify coverage and process a claim for a lost package.
  • Claims Processing: Details you provide in a claim (order info, photos, etc.) are used to investigate and resolve your claim, which may include coordinating with the merchant to send a replacement or issue a refund.
  • Communications: We use your contact info to send service-related communications. For instance, we’ll email you updates on your claim status or respond to your support questions. We do not send promotional or marketing emails, and we won’t add you to any mailing list.
  • Improving Swipe: Anonymous site usage data or aggregated claim statistics may be used internally to understand how our services are performing and where we can make improvements. For example, we might analyze the average time to resolve claims to improve our response process.
  • Legal Obligations: If necessary, we will use or disclose information to comply with legal requirements, such as fulfilling lawful requests from authorities or keeping proper transaction records for accounting/regulatory purposes.
  1. How We Share Information

Swipe respects your privacy and does not sell your personal information to third parties. We only share information in limited circumstances:

  • With the Merchant: If you are a customer filing a claim, the information related to your claim (e.g. order number, issue, resolution) may be shared with the merchant you purchased from, since they may be involved in replacing your item or issuing a refund. We work closely with merchants to resolve your issue, so necessary details will be shared with them on a need-to-know basis.
  • Service Providers: We may share data with trusted service providers that help us run Swipe (for example, a cloud hosting provider for our app, or an email service to send notifications). These partners are bound by confidentiality obligations and only use your data to provide services to us (not for their own purposes).
  • Legal Requirements and Protection: We may disclose information if required by law or legal process, or if we need to enforce our Terms of Service or protect the rights, property, or safety of Swipe, our users, or others. For example, if we detect fraud (such as a fraudulent claim), we might share information with law enforcement agencies.

We do not share or exchange data with advertisers or social media platforms, and we have no third-party advertising or analytics trackers beyond the basic functional analytics mentioned.

  1. Cookies and Tracking

Swipe uses cookies and similar technologies only as necessary to provide our services and improve your experience. For detailed information, please read our Cookie Notice. In summary, when you use our site or dashboard:

  • We may place a functional cookie to maintain your session (for example, when merchants log in to their Swipe dashboard, a cookie keeps you logged in securely).
  • We may use analytics cookies to collect anonymized usage data (e.g. Google Analytics with no personalized tracking) to see how the site is performing.

We do not use any advertising cookies or trackers for marketing purposes. You have choices to control or block cookies in your browser settings, but note that disabling essential cookies might affect the functionality of the Swipe app or website.
  1. Data Retention

We retain personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined above. For example, we keep claim records and related communications so we can track resolutions and meet legal/financial record-keeping requirements. If you are a customer, your data tied to a claim is generally retained for the period we might reasonably need it in case of follow-up issues or inquiries. After it’s no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymize the data. For merchants, account information is retained as long as you use Swipe, and any financial transaction records are kept as required by law.

  1. Data Security

We take security seriously. Swipe implements reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your information from unauthorized access or disclosure. This includes encryption of data in transit (e.g., our site and app use HTTPS), secure storage of data on vetted cloud servers, and restricted access controls such that only authorized staff can access sensitive information. While we strive to protect your data, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. However, we continuously update our security practices to meet or exceed industry standards.

  1. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location and applicable laws, you may have rights regarding your personal information. These may include the right to access a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, or object to certain processing. For instance, customers can request deletion of their claim data after it’s resolved, and merchants can update their account information at any time. To exercise any privacy rights or ask questions about your data, please contact us using the information in the Contact section below. We will respond in a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with applicable law. Please note that if you request deletion of data that is necessary for us to provide the service (e.g. information needed to process an active claim), we may not be able to fulfill the request until that purpose is completed, or we may be required to retain certain information for legal reasons (we will inform you in such cases).

  1. Children’s Privacy

Swipe’s services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Our package protection is offered on e-commerce purchases, so it is intended for use by adult shoppers. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information to us, please contact us so we can investigate and address the issue.

  1. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as our business or legal requirements change. If we make significant changes, we will notify users by posting a prominent notice on our website or through other appropriate communication. The “Last updated” date at the top of this policy will always indicate the latest revision. We encourage you to review this Policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your information.
